💪 Brand-building is your SEO edge
SEO has been primarily Google-focused ever since Google became the dominant search engine in the 2000s.
But there’s been a major shift—search behavior is becoming more “fragmented” across platforms like LLM search (AI-powered), TikTok, Reddit, and YouTube, writes SEO and content expert Adam Tanguay.
In 2025, brands need to focus on multi-platform visibility and brand recognition. This means pivoting from keyword-focused SEO to brand-driven SEO, where your company is seen as an authority across search engines, AI models, and social channels.
How to build a brand-first SEO strategy
Turn into a thought leader: Contribute to LinkedIn, industry publications, and podcasts to boost brand presence—and if you have other team members, encourage them to do the same
Get original: Conduct original research or case studies that only your startup can provide
Keep it structured: AI Overviews and other LLM-generated answers love pulling in structured data—keep this in mind as you create content
Plug in your brand name: Tanguay says he tells clients to use consistent phrasing like “{brand} {adjective} {keyword}” in your owned media
💡 Start keeping tabs on how frequently you appear in LLM search models (Gemini, ChatGPT, etc), as well as your brand search volume and mentions on sites your audience loves to use.
🤖 Leadership in the AI era
Leadership historically has been marked by these two key factors:
Access to information others didn’t
Telling a compelling story about it
Today, AI is leveling the playing field—everyone has access to the same information. Robert Rose of Content Marketing Institute says the question now becomes, “What’s left?”
AI is essentially shifting what “leadership” requires. While there are many potential outcomes, let’s focus on what you can do with this information.
🤝 What ‘thought leadership’ requires in 2025
Creating meaning and guiding interpretation: Information is no longer power—it’s how you interpret and communicate it to your audience. This means not just presenting the data, but framing it in a way that builds trust and encourages action.
Getting your audience to believe in you: Your message doesn’t mean anything to your audience unless they trust and believe in you first. Your authenticity and credibility must shine through.
👥 Thought leadership today is bolstered by community. The true differentiator is building real relationships with others.
