Develop a reliable content system (the “engine” of your lead gen machine)

🤝 Straightforward outreach that converts
LinkedIn is a powerful tool for startup founders and entrepreneurs to build connections and generate leads, but many people take the wrong approach.
🎙️ In my recent appearance on the podcast Changing the Sales Game with Connie Whitman, I explain the two main ways to connect on LinkedIn:
Direct & transparent: You are upfront about why you’re reaching out, and leave it open to connection if they are interested.
Light-touch first, then introduce: Start with a personalized message to connect (something they recently shared, a mutual connection, etc.), then follow up with a message where you introduce yourself and share what you do. No pitches!
You’d be amazed at how often people will check out your profile and respond with interest to get a conversation rolling.

🏗️ The best way to build a pipeline fast
No gatekeeping here: The best way to quickly build momentum in your first 30 to 90 days is to start with what you already have.
📂 The process looks like this:
Identify your previous or aged leads, past clients, personal or professional connections, and strategic partners in your existing network and list them.
Start the highest potential conversations with those who already know what you do, trust you, or are in a role/industry that matches your ICP.
Use your early responses to test your messaging, refine your position, and generate referrals.
✍️ You’re starting small, so you have the advantage of taking your time with direct, thoughtful, ultra-personalized messaging that will either result in quick wins or valuable feedback.
Briefly
📈 Most small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) say acquiring new customers was the biggest marketing challenge in their first year, followed by a lack of resources and differentiating their product/services from competitors, according to new research. Read the full report here.
💭 Social proof is a great marketing strategy, but negative social proof consistently backfires. See these examples of how a simple language shift focusing on what people should do—rather than highlighting negative behavior—yields better results.
📹 41% of brands are using AI for video—up from 18% last year. A new Wistia report explores how people are using AI for video, the top-performing video types, budgets, challenges, and more.
📷 Entrepreneur Tonia Ryan grew her Instagram audience to over 3.8 million followers. While acknowledging the growth challenges in 2025, she recently shared the main ways she gained her followers, including eye-catching visuals, conversational captions, and powerful CTAs.

Up & Coming
Curious about how far Google intends to go with AI-powered search?
At Search Central Live NYC, Google’s John Mueller explained that AI is not going to replace search and SEO is still necessary—but the traditional search bar is likely to become “less prominent over time.”
What does that mean for us? We have to just keep evolving with the changes, per usual.
